LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012)


LeRoy Neiman and his art have become as popular as the well-known sports heroes and international personalities and places that he paints. After studying and teaching at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1950 to 1960 and winning a host of prizes, Neiman began his odyssey to all parts of the world. In his travels with his sketchbooks, he observes and sets down in bursting color what has transpired. Neiman draws quickly, capturing the best of people, places, and events. He has become a world-class master of vibrant you-are-there scenes of sports, social and cultural events.His work is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institute, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Whitney Museum in New York.
