Born in New Jersey, Tjelda spent her formative years living in the United States and the Netherlands. The vivid colors of the famous Keukenhof gardens and acres of brilliant colored tulip fields captivated the young artist. Returning to the United States, she completed her formal education in classical painting, drawing and intaglio at the National Academy of Design and Fine Art and the School of Visual Arts, both in NYC. Studying Chinese stenciling techniques in Hawaii she became skilled in serigraph printmaking. Tjelda's works are in the permanent collection of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Pittsburg, PA. She created "Delphiniums" for the poster and cover of the show's "Catalog [of the] 5th Intrenational Exhibition of Botanical Art & Illustration." Her paintings and works on paper are featured in museums and galleries nationally and internationally. Printed by the artist, these serigraphs featured are executed using many individual silk screens achieving vibrant images.
