Kawase Hasui (1883-1957)

Born in Tokyo, Kawase Hasui is known for his exquisite landscape prints. He traveled frequently and filled his sketchbooks with drawings of scenic places around Japan. Producing almost 600 images, he was one of the most prolific and talented wood block artists of the early 20th century. In 1953, the Japanese government designated Hasui a "National Living Treasure".
