A native of Everett, Washington, Byron Bratt is a modern master of the velvet tonalities of the diffficult and centuries-old mezzotint process of engraving. The soft quality of mezzotint and its extremely subtle appearance attracted Bratt when he was an art student at Western Washington State University and the University of Washington because it related so directly to his drawing style. He perfected his technique at Pratt in New York City where he was also a teaching assistant. His mezzotints are in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the New York Public Library and the Library of Congress.
